~My Favorite Ideas for Halloween Decor & Crafts~

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year because decorating is so fun and whimsical. And every year, I swear that I have enough spooky decor and have no need to buy more. And yet every year, I find amazing new decor or crafts to add. Some of my favorite new ideas and some oldies are below.

Oui Jar Monster Votives

Oui Yogurt is a favorite of mine, and as a post says, love the yogurt - love the jars. This is such a fun way to repurpose those awesome jars. I originally saw a version created by a really clever person in an Aldi Aisle of Shame Facebook group. (If you have an Aldi, then you understand the name. lol)

The white ghost is painted on the inside with Mod Podge and basic white craft paint. Frankenstein and the jack o'lantern are painted with Mod Podge and food coloring.

The faces are designs I found on Etsy and cut on my Silhouette Cameo, except for Frankenstein's hair. I just cut jagged edges on one side of a thin strip of vinyl. It's my favorite part of him. If you have trouble finding faces, let me know and I will create new versions for you.

I use battery operated votive candles inside, so a flame doesn't affect the paint. You can find a ton of other ideas for repurposing Oui Yogurt jars here.

Skeleton Trophies

Love these guys!! Wouldn't they be amazing as awards for Best Costume at a Halloween party?

These are made with skeletons from a Dollar Tree garland. There are 4 skeletons per garland, and I used 2 packages or 7 total skeletons. (There are a lot of headless bodies left which is actually kind of perfect for Halloween. 😊)

I saw a picture of these in an Amazon review and wanted to make them for myself. (btw Amazon photo reviews are an excellent resource for holiday, baking, and decorating ideas! Seriously, take a look.) I ordered the wood bases and the trophies.

You'll need to cut the loop that attaches it to the garland off the top of the skeleton heads. Although I originally tried to use super glue, it became obvious pretty quickly that a hot glue gun was the only way to go.

To arrange the arms and legs, break them off and reglue them. The ones I did that actually did bend eventually went back to their original position. A small clamp is great for holding the feet to the base or to the trophy for a couple of minutes while it dries. And don't forget to cut the neck off of the headless skeleton.

Skeleton Vase

This vase uses the same Dollar Tree skeletons as the trophies above. I used 28 skeletons, so 7 packages. The easiest way to add the kneeling skeletons is to put every other skeleton around the vase, and then fill in the empty spaces. Otherwise, the skeletons tend to fall over.

To get the roses in this shape, I held them together by their stems, and gently pulled each one into a domed shape. I used a rubber band to hold the roses together, and then used black electrical tape to cover the stems. This helps to hide them in the vase, and they all stick in the middle instead of disturbing the skeletons.

The roses are beautiful and are the foam style similar to Real Touch flowers. I bought them on Amazon here.

Oui Jars with Temporary Tattoos

This is such a fun idea! Temporary tattoos are perfect for kids to use on Oui jars because they are 1) temporary! 2) inexpensive 3) the perfect size and 4) come off with a bit of vegetable oil, and 5) come in a ton of styles for holidays, animals, you name it. You can have custom glasses for any occasion. 🦇👻🎃

I bought these from Ducky Street which has an incredible selection of kids' temporary tattoos, so your imagination is the limit. You can see their selection here.

Trick or Treat, Very Scary, & Spooky Happy Pots

Of course I love these since I made them! They're perfect for Halloween treats or prizes, and they're great for mini Halloween arrangements. They're here.

Dollar Tree Finds

My Dollar Tree has some seriously fun Halloween Decor.

This candle is adorable like it is, but if you want something a little more gory, when you burn it, the inside is red and looks like blood. Yikes! I'll just leave it like this to set out each year.

This is a snack or candy dish, but I love it for a vase, too.

Framed Spooky Photo

Halloween artwork is new to me, and I think it is my favorite this year. I found the print online, and then bought a $12.99 picture at TJ Maxx or the frame. I didn't use the glass because it looks more like an old oil painting this way. This is the perfect little spot for it below the stairs.

Michael's Halloween Bottles

I bought these 3 bottle from Michaels for under $5 as they were on sale 40% off. More Dollar Tree bones, some spiders, and food coloring make an inexpensive, but charming display for a shelf or small table.

Bone Vase Filler

These are dollar store bones again as a vase filler. You can use black faux flowers, but I really like using real flowers because it make it a bit macabre. lol If you do use real flowers, make sure that you only fill the water to about halfway to prevent the bones from floating. Although on second thought, floating bones might be fun, too!

Flying Staircase Bats

This is a terrible, terrible photo, and I am embarrassed to include it, but the idea is such a good one, I had to include it. The bats are just 4 different sizes of the same graphic cut from removable Oracal 631 black vinyl.

It's a forgiving project, because you can just move any if you don't like their placement. Kids love this! I kept the paper backing to store them after Halloween.

Home Sense Finds

Home Sense opened in our town last year, and it's by the TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Home Goods people. It's like Home Goods, but on steroids. 😂 Their inventory is always changing, and has everything from furniture to kitchen goods. You could spend hours exploring there just on their seasonal items, like this one.

I love this giant pumpkin, but I don't think it is kid friendly. When my son was little, he would have tried to get inside every chance he got. It is awesome though.

This photo prop is definitely kid friendly. It would be amazing at a kids party. They had several styles, so this might be a thing now, but I don't remember seeing any last year.

This pumpkins set is a lot more kid (and clumsy adult - me!) friendly. I love that it is white, too. It's so pretty.

Love love love! (Of course, it's in neutral colors, so it's perfect to me.) This would be such a great focal point on an entryway table or a bookshelf.
